How do you calculate the amount of energy needed to run a certain distance?
Q. Is there a formula or some information I can use to calculate the amount of energy a person needed to run a certain distance? Not the amount of calories they burned but just the amount of energy the used or the amount of energy they would need?
Asked by luckyducky - Sat May 23 10:02:04 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's about 100 calories per mile. Heavier people expend more calories. The speed you run or walk at doesn't make much difference.

When you go to settle a debt with a company by explaining your situation to them, they offer to accept an amount much lower than what the full amount is that you owe them, they are happy to get a very small some just to get something in most cases, but what percentage of the actual debt do they usually draw the line at vs. what is actually owed, and what is the smallest amount you have ever seen or heard of being accepted to settle a debt?

How do I convert the amount of whole flax seed needed in a recipe to a ground amount?
Q. I want to try out a new recipe that calls for flax seeds. The recipe gives the amount in whole seeds. In the prep, the seeds must be ground. I would like take a shortcut and purchase flax seeds alreedy ground but how do I convert the amount in the recipe from whole to ground?
Asked by drquinn52 - Wed Mar 4 18:04:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Since flax seeds are so small to begin with, you can use a slightly shallower version of the same measuring spoon. For example, if it calls for 1 tsp, then instead of a level teaspoon, try filling the teaspoon slightly less full of the ground version to account for the minuscule spacing between that would have been the whole seeds.

What amount is considered a major house repair?
Q. We have an agreement with our landlord to pay a reduced rent in exchange for being responsible for minor repairs to the house. What amount is considered minor/major?
Asked by lady_missunderstood2006 - Tue Jul 21 01:27:17 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You and your landlord need to have a discussion about it to make sure you're on the same page as to what's major and what's minor. It might cost the same to paint a room as to install a new faucet if you do the labour, but your landlord might prefer to have a real plumber do the faucet.

What is the proper amount of sets of sheets a person should have per bed?
Q. We have a king bed, a queen bed and a full size futon and a single blow up bed. I'm drowning in sheet sets. We sleep in the king bed every night. The queen is for guests and the futon and single are only used when we have lots of guests (not often). How many sets of sheets should I try to have per bed? What is the usual amount or proper amount.
Asked by juliettavirgo - Tue Mar 25 21:13:40 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's a person preference, but I would have two sets of sheets for each bed. I found the best way to store the ones not being used that may help you. After folding the set, slide both the sheets and one pillow case into the other pilllow case. You have everything in a bag, and it stores nice and flat so you can stack. Keep the other sets on the bed with a dryer sheet or two in the ones rarely used and they stay nice and fresh smelling for your guests.

What is the correct amount for a gift card or personal check as a wedding gift?
Q. My husband's co-worker is getting married. My husband is an attorney and works in a professional office. We are going to the ceremony and reception. I don't believe in the "pay for your plate" theory because I had a very fancy wedding (which cost my parents a bundle) and we never expected guests to pay for their plate via a gift or monetary amount. At that point they are not "guests." What would be a nice amount to give under the circumstances. I haven't been to a wedding in a few years and need some good info.

A. I just want to say that I agree with you about the check not needing to cover the plate. That has never made any sense to me. Why does somebody who is poorer and has to pay for the wedding themselves deserve anything less than somebody with wealthy parents who are throwing an extravagant bash for them? I always thought the point of a wedding gift was to congratulate the couple, not to repay them for having bought you dinner. Anyway, I have heard that the check should be equivalent to how close you are to the person and how much you can afford. I was just married, and the checks I got being between $50 and $600 with the majority being $100. We had a fairly small wedding and only invited people we felt close to though. If we had… [cont.]

A. This is very true. I don't really know why she has maintained her popularity the way she has, for a period of 8 or so years she was everywhere (due to her publicity). I suppose it was because she was marketed as this all american girl who makes pop music that is a little risque (girls feel like rebelling against parents ahah) but still had a good beat and was catchy. But now a days, after her "crazy" period she has maintained this sort of "princess of pop" status probably based on everyone previous memories of her. I believe her popularity today all has to do with people nostalgic memories of her. Sure she makes alright music, but really? It isn't to good. Other artists that are obviously more talented than her have not received as much… [cont.]

What percentage or dollar amount is best to set a stop when trading options?
Q. What percentage or dollar amount is best to set a stop when trading options? Option prices can fluctuate quite a bit, so even if the option eventually increases in value and becomes profitable, it can drop significantly before doing so, which means a stop can be triggered during this temporary drop in value. What amount/percent works best, to avoid triggering a stop during a longer-term increase in value?
Asked by Procto-Boy - Wed Mar 12 10:55:24 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is tough, because options fluctuate very easily up and down. A 10% drop can happen in 1 min and the next min its up 10%. I would think that the dollar amount will flucuate between option to option. You have to think of a couple of things... 1) How much time do you have before the option expires. 2) Why is the stock falling? What I like to do is try and think of how far a stock might fall, and try to figure out what the option price would be if it fell that far, and set it around that. Hope that helps.

What is the average amount of time it takes to pay back college loans?
Q. I was living in a fantasy land when I thought those stupid little booklets that Student Loan Finance Corporation sent out for a payment plan, was all I had to pay. I never realized how many bloody years it actually took, until I called those creatures today. So, I'm wondering what is the average amount of time it takes for people to pay back their student loans? and why can you pay back a car loan for 20 grand in five years, but a college loans for the same amount takes 18 or something equally as insane? Thank you.
Asked by redangus22 - Wed Jul 12 18:58:55 2006 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. It usually is about ten years to pay off student loans. It takes longer to pay off student loans than car loans because the payments tend to be lower, but they don't restrict you from paying extra or even paying them off early. It's actually better for you if you do that because you will pay less interest.

A. You may carry as much as you want but you are required to report it to both, Canadian and U.S. customs officers if it exceeds $10,000.00 in any form to include coins, cash, personal or cashier's check, traveler's checks, money orders, stocks, bonds. If yes, you must complete the U.S. Customs Form 4790 .. and the Canadian Form E677 .. See the attached website on the personal exemptions from duty which depend on the length of your stay. ..

A. If you are self employed you are required to file a return if you make over $400. You might not make enough to owe any income tax, but will owe self employment tax (social security and medicare).

A. I'd say that if you just want to practice and you don't care about making money at first. Then $10,000 would be a good amount to start with. If you trade with less money than that. Then your comission costs will be too high relative to your trading profits. And you may end up loosing money even if you do relatively well in terms of trading. Which can be discouraging. But there is a way to practice without any real money at all. You can open a free account and practice trading with virtual money at this website:

What is a reasonable amount of debt to have after completing a PhD program?
Q. I'm working toward a PhD in Political Science. My concentration is International Relations, and I'd prefer to teach at a large research university. I know about how much faculty members in my field earn, but, frankly...I'm a little worried about being able to pay off my student loans. If you've earned your PhD, or if you have information about this topic, what do you think is a reasonable amount of debt to have after you get your PhD? Can you reasonably pay it off on a professor's salary? I know that it would depend on the amount of debt and how much the position pays, but if you can share your experiences, I'd be appreciative. Thanks. I'm funded, by the way, but the stipend at my tiny public school is ridiculous. Because I'm funded, [cont.]

I would expect some debt but if your going to be a professor I doubt you would have much trouble paying it off. Sorry I can't helpe you more, I admire you for going for a PhD.!!!

What is a usual amount that a father would pay for child support?
Q. Say that I make 40,000/year and am not married to the baby's mother. Is each State's amount different? What other things would determine the amount paid to the mother?
Asked by Not a Sheep - Sat Nov 15 19:44:50 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Whether or not you are married to the baby's mother probably makes no difference. Each state has a set of guidelines. Use Yahoo!Search to find child support guidelines and the name of your state. Your state's child support enforcement agency's guidelines page should be among the top on the list. Usually, 20% to 25% of net income is appropriate for one child.
