What does a beginner need to about drawing?
Q. I want to take up the hobby of drawing and art. I am a pure beginner and know nothing about about arts. I have been reading books about art and different materials (medium) about art. Where do I start? What does a beginner start drawing first? Please help me out here. Thanks for your time and answers. God Bless.

A. For a beginner, I wouldn't suggest jumping into trying to draw the body or anything like that just yet. I would also suggest not getting too overboard with worrying about mediums. The best place to start in my opinion (I will be graduating in 3 weeks with an art degree) is at the basics: pencil and paper. Be sure that you get some artist pencils, rather than just plain old #2s though. They come in different hardnesses (as far as the lead goes) so maybe try getting a few different ones and see what one works best for you. Then, get yourself a sketchpad. It's a good idea to have a small one to carry around with you so that when you get a few spare moments, you can practice drawing. You can get a bigger one to keep at home. To begin with, I… [cont.]

How expensive are beginner dance and swimming lessons?
Q. I'm a teenager who wants to learn to swim and dance, but I don't know how expensive lessons would be. For dance, I would want to take beginner ballet classes, just for fun to learn a little. For swimming, I would just want to take beginner classes on stuff like basic strokes and breathing, and try to work on building up swimming strength throughout the year. I know that prices are different depending on where you go, but what would you say the average prices would be?
Asked by RainbowZebra <3 - Wed Aug 12 12:41:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends largely on where you live. In the mid-west swimming lessons are between 30 and 40 dollars for a group lesson 8 lessons, half hour each. I would advise getting private lessons, however, as you will get one on one attention the entire time. They run from 50-80 dollars for 4 lessons, half hour each. The price depends on the teacher as well. More experience equals more money. I have no experience with the dance thing though. Good luck with that.

How does a beginner go about shopping for his first guitar?
Q. I would like to learn to play guitar, but I have heard nightmare stories about trying to learn on a poorly made guitar. Any advice on quality brands for a beginner that won't break the bank as I figure out if I like playing?

A. Hello, I can only agree with what has been said already, generally. However, I could possibly ask questions such as: have you ever picked up and played a guitar ; nylon strung (classical, flamenco) steel strung `(electric solid body, semi-acoustic, acoustic-electric, 12 string, 6 string, dreadnought - large body, also called jumbos- folk style, western, etc... blah, blah?) You get the picture. Also what music do you like : Jazz, Blues, Folk, Country and Westrn, Rock, Pop, Funk, Reggae, Flamenco...it goes on, doesn't it. I don't want to put you off - I want you to define your goal and refine your search criteria. As the person above stated so well, you could visit a guitar tutor but find someone who can provide you with a grounding in the… [cont.]

What is a good beginner electric guitar?
Q. I'm so confused about what to buy for an electric guitar. And since I'm a beginner, what should I buy? And what kind of amp should I get? I just need all the information I could get about what to buy. Thanks!
Asked by Mad_Girl - Wed Jun 13 00:52:45 2007 - - 8 Answers - 2 Comments

A. I'd recommend a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson (maybe too expensive, but could be a good investment if you're really serious about learning) for your first electric. Go to a big guitar store. Search your yellow pages for surrounding areas and/or the city you live in and find a place where you can go and browse a bit. Even if you're just a beginner, ask them to get some guitars off the stands or walls so you can try them out. Just see how they feel when you hold them. Have them plug them in and just strum randomly (its ok if you don't know any cords yet-- don't be shy) and see what it sounds like... play with the knobs. Ask someone at the store to recommend an amp. A lot of it will depend on the price range, too. And consider what… [cont.]

What is a good camera for a beginner that knows nothing about photography but wants to get into it?
Q. I have always wanted to be a photographer and always take pictures with my cheap digital camera. However, i really want a camera for beginner photographers .. ps. any tips for beginners?
Asked by C F - Sun Apr 4 23:53:42 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would say buy the Canon EOS dslr starter kit. It comes with two lenses and the camera has an auto mode. It runs around $700 bucks but will last you a long time before you out grow it. After shooting in auto mode for a while you can play with manual mode and start to learn the technical stuff like ISO, Shutter speed, and dept of field. My tip to any beginner is to take as many pictures as you can in manual mode using all of the different settings and get comfortable with your camera. Hope this helps

What camera should a beginner photographer buy?
Q. I'm interested in becoming a professional photographer or just have photography as a hobby and I was just wondering what kind of camera a beginner buy. It would help if it isn't very expensive because I have to pay for it my self and I'm only in 8th grade. -_- It's ok if it's expensive, I'll save up, but if there are so cheap ones that are still good please let me know. Thanks for your help!

A. Hey there! I highly suggest the Canon Rebel XT (not XTi). It is a pretty old camera (from about 2002 I think), but it is PERFECT for a beginner... it is what I use! It is simple, durable, and is awesome. (: I am pretty sure it is about $200 or cheaper on eBay, and I suggest buying a used one. I promise, you will fall in love with it! Good luck!

A. There aren't really any tricks a beginner should start learning. It's important to develop a solid base before you get to any powermoves or tricks. I'll just show some progressions you can do to get to some powermoves/tricks. 3step -> 2step -> Baby swipes (close to same as 2step) -> Swipes -> One legged swipes Baby freeze -> Stab -> One handed stab -> Handspins -> Crickets -> Jackhammers -> Darkhammers It doesn't matter if you learn jackhammers or darkhammers first. Both are very difficult however. Jackhammer requires a lot of pumping strength and momentum in one arm. Darkhammers require stabbing with both arms at different times (you need to be ambidextrous) Baby freeze -> Stab -> Hang glides -> Windmill -> Coindrop -> Munchmills ->… [cont.]

What is a good basic beginner guitar?
Q. I have never played the guitar before and I don't want to spend a ton of money around $100-200. However I want to enjoy my learning experience but I don't have the money right now to get a really good guitar. Any suggestions? I have been looking at the Jasmine and the Johnson beginner.
Asked by Ashley R - Mon Jul 14 23:16:42 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Jasmine is a solid choice (and one of the only real choices) in that price range. The most important things for you to consider when you buy the guitar are how it sounds (to you) and how it feels when you play it. Don't listen to any salespeople trying to sell you on the finer points between the finishes and materials. Go to a music store and have a salesperson play the same riff for you on a few instruments in the same price range. Close your eyes and listen to the sound. Which sounds better? Next, take the guitar yourself and play a few notes with your hand up high and down low on the neck. Pay attention to how far the strings sit above the surface of the neck. This is called the "action". A higher action can be more… [cont.]

How would you describe a beginner, intermediate, and advanced rider?
Q. Like it says above, describe what you think in your own opinion is a beginner, intermediate, and advanced rider. Be VERY descriptive of your opinion. This is in a general sense of riding. For example when an ad for a horse for sale says "good for beginner" or "would prefer advanced intermediate rider".

A. It's all in where you draw the baseline! My definition is going to be different than yours. Beginners don't know anything Intermediate riders know just enough to be dangerous Advanced riders don't call themselves advanced riders. They just ride and let others be the judge.

A. Well, you need to lift your soft pallet when you sing high- it's at the back/top of you mouth and you can feel it with your tongue. When on the high notes lift your soft pallet, it will make you sort of wanna yawn but you won't screech. Just a tip, don't sing pop songs when you learning- i mean do like for fun and everything- but don't use them as your singing bible if you get me? I hope this helps and good luck!!!

Q. Not too expensive; I plan on buying it myself. But, something that would be good for a beginner photographer. Any accessories for it? Like, lenses?
Asked by Vee - Tue Mar 9 18:27:25 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Get a Nikon d3000 (I would say d40 but they aren't really made any more) They're great for beginners because they have an on-screen guide. And I would recommend using the lens that comes with the camera, and possibly a telephoto/telezoom lens (like 70-200 mm) And, as an extra, (if you can afford it) get a 50mm or 35mm as well. If you stick with photography, stick to the same brand camera because then you can still use the same lenses!

A. I agree - try Guitar Center or your local music shop. Having played guitar for nearly 20 years, I can tell you a cheap guitar sounds, well cheap and it is HARDER to play! Sounds strange but a decent guitar makes all the difference and if it's easier to play and sounds better, chances are you're gonna stick with it. A few items you'll want to get right away: Pitch pipes or electronic tuner: nothing worse than a guitar that's out of tune. Chord handbook - worthwile book to have around when you get adventurous enough to try to figure out songs on your own. Polishing cloth - keep your piece clean and it will last a long time. Extra strings - if you play constantly, you will be changing your strings a lot. The #1 mistake people make is… [cont.]

Since your just beginning this camera is a really good choice (I still have mine, but sometimes use my mom's better camera). I got mine for under $200 (: It takes really good pictures, 9 megapixels, 4x zoom (plus you can go even further, you just need to find it in the manual, btw it goes to 7.6 x - not the best because it goes blurry, sometimes), red eye reduction, effective flash range 1 ft - 13 ft, self timer, microphone, video, auto focus, max shutter speed - 1/1200 seconds. Modes: Portrait, Clear Scenic Shots, Video, Baby Mode, Stabilization It also has Macro (which works really well) Heres some of my photos taken with this camera : (yo [cont.]
