A. The seed is alive as long as the germ is not killed by heat, extreme cold or rot. Many seeds have been found in air-tight tombs that are thousands of years old and are still viable. Most seeds will be good for 3 years, give or take a year or so, however some are not as likely to germinte after a long period as others. Seeds of most plants can be keep frozen for extended lengths of time as long as they are dry & air-tight.
